Kansas City has a lot to offer especially to those looking at establishing or relocating a data center. We are geographically centered in the United States which means that we are located away from the coasts and the threat of hurricanes. In addition, we are also located outside of high risk earthquake zones, and according to VorTek, LLC, experts in tornadic research, Kansas City is not one of the top twenty tornado-prone cities based on the National Weather Service's data for tornadic activity from 1950 through 2005.

We also have a low risk of black out thanks to efficient and well designed energy delivery infrastrucutre systems, and the cost of power in Kansas City is very reasonable especially considering the quality delivered. We are also one of the cross country fiber hubs and have a solid and diverse mix of Tier 1 providers with global networks as well as a very respectable group of alternate carriers and service providers. Add to this a well-educated population with a tremendous work ethic, and it is easy to see why companies such as MasterCard, 1&1 Internet, Liberty Mutual, H&R Block, Hallmark Cards, Cerner Corporation, the Internal Revenue Service, and Bank of America all have data center operations in Kansas City. It is certainly no wonder The Boyd Company cited Kansas City as a Top 10 market to watch for data center build outs in a January 2007 article by Data Center Knowledge.

Sure we are a bit biased since we already call Kansas City home, but this really is a terrific place to live, work, play, and raise a family. With a population of nearly two million people in the metropolitan area, we have many of the luxuries of larger cities while retaining the benefits of a smaller less congested city. Don't just take our word for it though. Kiplinger ranked Kansas City #6 in their 2006 Smart Places to Live list, and our suburbs regularly receive high praises too including Overland Park, Kansas who Money Magazine named as the #6 Best Places to Live in 2006. Kansas City's downtown is also experiencing an exciting multi-billion dollar renovation which 1102 GRAND is excited to be a part of through our $7 million building renovation. One thing is for sure, Kansas City is no longer the little cow town that some people still like to label us, and although we are proud of our history, it is our future that excites us the most.
