Investing nearly $10 million through the purchase and reinvention of 1102 GRAND, the owners transformed the building into a robust facility known as a Carrier Hotel. This project simultaneously established 1102 GRAND and Kansas City as a logical choice for companies seeking to interconnect with others and cost effectively build and operate data centers or colocation presences on a smaller scale. Nearly 60 companies from around the corner to as far away as Europe have already “checked in” at Kansas City’s Carrier Hotel and utilize 1102 GRAND's facility as a point of presence (POP), production data center or colocation site, or as a cost effective disaster recovery location.

These companies knew that selecting a location for their critical infrastructure was an important decision, and they recognized the value off being at 1102 GRAND. Being geographically centered in the United States means that we are located away from the coasts and the threat of hurricanes. In addition, we are also located outside of high risk earthquake zones, and according to VorTek, LLC (experts in tornadic research), Kansas City is not one of the top twenty tornado-prone cities based on the National Weather Service's data for tornadic activity from 1950 through 2005.

It is not all about geography though, and our tenants benefit from our infrastructure as well. We have access to ample power, sit on two diverse electric utility power grids with automatic transfer switching, and offer UPS and generator support to our tenants. In addition, we also have a low risk of blackouts thanks to efficient and well designed energy delivery infrastructure systems inside and outside of the building. Moreover, the cost of power in Kansas City is very reasonable especially considering the quality delivered, and our electric utility (Kansas City Power & Light) was recently named the most reliable electric utility in the nation (read press release).

1102 GRAND is also located directly on Kansas City's major metropolitan fiber ring and along Kansas City's 11th Street Telecommunication Corridor. Consequently, the who's who of the telecommunication industry, including AT&T, Level 3, Verizon Business, Time Warner Cable and Qwest along with a very respectable group of alternate carriers, service providers, and enterprise customers have built facilities at 1102 GRAND. Be sure to view our continually expanding tenant list for the most current list of companies interconnecting in our Meet Me Room.

To accommodate everyone from small businesses to enterprise customers and wireless providers to Tier 1 carriers, we offer a wide array of colocation options including private 1/3 (14U) cabinets, full (42U) cabinets, cage space, private data suites, and raw space for larger build outs up to 7000 square feet. Since we are the building owners, tenants get to work directly with us to ensure fair and flexible leases, and we even offer build credits as incentives for private data suites and raw space build outs depending on the tenant's design and requirements.

Moreover, since 1102 GRAND is a neutral facility, tenants get to work directly with the carriers and providers of their choosing and negotiate the best pricing possible. Connect with one provider or design a custom multi-homed solution, and then optionally utilize the Meet Me Room to interconnect with other members to trade services, sell services, or even connect to one of the peering fabrics located in the building. At 1102 GRAND, it is more than just colocation, it is about interconnection and driving your business to the next level.

Although we know technology is the core of many of our tenants' businesses, at the end of the day, it all comes down to people. People purchase products and services, recommend providers to peers, and create innovative solutions to real world business problems. That is why 1102 GRAND puts together quarterly networking events for our tenants and others in the community. Our goal is to help facilitate business by bringing entities together both from a business development and physical interconnection standpoint. 1102 GRAND is more than a hub for the internet ... we are a hub for commerce, and we hope that you will choose to be a part of the experience we are building here one interconnection at at time.
